History of Golden Temple
The first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak, and the fifth Guru Arjun Sahib Ji themselves designed the architecture of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Before that, the third Nanak, Shri Guru Amar Das Sahib, had talked about building the Golden Temple in Amritsar or Amrit Sarovar. But to get it constructed, Guru Ramdas Sahib Ji donated land, due to which the construction of the Golden Temple was completed. The construction of Sri Harmandir Sahib started in 1570 which was completed in 1577 AD.
Sri Harmandir Sahib was built by all religions to worship God in peace together. Arjuna, the Guru of Sikhism, invited the Muslim Sufi saint, Hazrat Mian Mir, to lay the foundation stone of Sri Harmandir Sahib to place before the people the sign of the universality of non-sect Sikhism.
Langars in Golden Temple
Everyday lakhs of people come to worship Shri Harmandir Sahib and all people join hands to anchor the gurudwara. Everyday millions of people are fed free food in these langars. The langar is organized not only in the Golden Temple but also in almost all gurdwaras in India.

Darshan Timings in Golden Temple
To see the Golden Temple, you have to be in a long line. There is no such thing as online booking for early viewing. However, if you want to avoid long line then you can stand in line from 4 am, your number will come soon. Visitation in the temple takes place from 3 am to 10 pm. Because of the long line, your number will not come even in three to four hours. So if you want to see well then come any day except Saturday-Sunday.
Rules for Tourist / Visitors in Golden Temple
- No person is allowed inside the gurudwara wearing his shoes.
- Drinking alcohol, eating meat, smoking cigarettes or any type of intoxication is strictly prohibited within the gurudwara.
- It is necessary to wear clothes covering the entire body.
- It is necessary to tie a handkerchief on the head before entering inside the gurudwara. Those who do not have a handkerchief to tie on the head, the people of the gurudwara themselves give them a scarf.

Best Time to Visit Golden Temple
If you are planning to visit the Golden Temple during the summer holidays, then do not even think about coming here at this time. Because it is very hot here, this time is not good for visiting here. You can come here in the monsoon season between July to August. Otherwise, October to March is the best time to visit here.
How to Reach Golden Temple
If you are going from Delhi to Amritsar train or by road, then it will take about 9 hours while flight will cost only 1 hour. If you are going for the Golden Temple then there is Rajasansi Airport here. It takes 15 minutes to reach here from Amritsar. If you are going to Delhi by road then you can reach Amritsar by Grand Trunk Road. With this, if you are going by highway, then you can reach Amritsar even after passing from Karnal, Ambala, Khanna, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
