Distance, Road Map and driving instructions

The Chandigarh to Jammu distance is 360 Kilometers and travel time is 7 to 9 hours. The road is partially four laned. The road towards Jammu passes through Mohali and  is common exit for Ludhiana, Jammu and Manali up to Kharar at a distance of 18 kilometers from Chandigarh. From Kharar one road takes left turn towards Ludhiana and the straight road goes towards Jammu, Jalandhar and Manali. At a further distance of  about 30 Kilometers the road passes through Ropar. One road bifurcates from this towards the right for Kullu Manali and Dharamshala. The road further passes 30 kilometers and at Balachaur gets bifurcated into two, the left one goes towards Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar and the right one goes towards Hoshiarpur Pathankot and Jammu. Hoshiarpur is 65  Kilometers from Balachaur and the road passes through Garhshankar. From Hoshiarpur the road goes to Pathankot via Dasua and Mukerian and the distance is 110 kilometers. Pathankot to Jammu is another 110 kilometers drive via Kathua and Samba.

Eat outs stopovers

There are no much famous restaurants  / dhabas in between Chandigarh and Jammu but there are a large number of decent Punjabi dhabas in between serving Punjabi and north Indian food at an economical price. There are some big dhabas on the outskirts of Hoshiarpur. The Dhabas in Punjab offer excellent food far better than these so called authentic Punjabi cuisines being served out in many metro cities and that too at an economical price.

Luxury Volvo and other AC Bus Services

There are a number of luxury Volvo and other AC buses available from Chandigarh to Jammu. As the journey is long and tiring during the daytime Volvo ad deluxe buses run in the night only. Buses start in between 8-11 PM from Chandigarh and reach Jammu the next day morning between 5 to 8 AM. There is thorough checking at the Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir border at Kathua and the buses halt there for about half an hour.

The New Delhi Jammu Volvo buses do not pass through Chandigarh. These buses pass through Ambala which is 45 Kilometers from Chandigarh

There are no government deluxe Volvo or AC bus service between Chandigarh and Jammu

Chandigarh to Jammu by train

Being at a diversion of northern railways from Ambala Chandigarh is connected to rest of India through Ambala only. There are no direct Chandigarh to Jammu trains. One has to go to Ambala at a distance of 45 kilometers from Chandigarh to catch train for Jammu.
