Shimla is one of the most popular hill stations and capital city of Himachal Pradesh. It is  also crowned with queen of hills. Shimla is located at an average altitude of 2397.59 meters above the sea level.  Shimla experiences with diverse climatic conditions, therefore both summer and winter months are best to visit Shimla because you can enjoy the snow at Shimla in this time.

The population of Shimla and the number of tourists coming here has increased manifold in the past few years. The number of private vehicles, tourist vehicles and taxis plying has has also multiplied with time. Being a hill station and that too located on the hill top there is not enough level space for parking. The parking space has remained more or less the same for the past many years but the vehicles have multiplied. This has led to parking wooes in Shimla.

Many of the old hotels are located on the mall road which do not have any parking place and Mall road is itself a prohibited area for vehicles. Almost 90% of the hotels situated in Shimla do not have parking place. In others the vehicles are parked on the roadside in front of the hotels. There are only three parking lots in Shimla city, one at Old bus stand, and the other two near lift. The roads other than the main road are very narrow and require expertise to drive through.

Peterhof Hotel

The hotel is one of the premium hotels of HPTDC. The Peterhof is a heritage hotel, which housed seven Viceroys and Governor Generals during the British Raj. After independence the structure also served as Punjab High Court and it was the place of trial of killer Nathu ram Godsey for assassination of Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. After statehood of Himachal it became Raj Bhawan. Unfortunately it caught fire in 1981 and rebuild in 1991 as heritage Luxury Hotel.
